Alaska Atmos Rewards

The oneworld program for free stopovers: a one-way partner award can include a stop of up to 14 days in the partner's hub and an onward flight for the same points. The chart is fixed and distance-based, but live prices often run well above it, so price the exact flight before you move points.

DataBuying points research, 2026 sales on record

As ofOct 8, 2026

Use it for

  • Japan Airlines business US West Coast to Tokyo: 60,000 points plus about USD 50 in taxes and the USD 20 partner fee, with a free Tokyo stopover and an onward flight in Asia
  • Qatar Qsuite New York to Doha: 70,000 points (85,000 from the West Coast) plus about USD 60 and USD 20, with a free Doha stopover and an onward Qatar flight
  • Aer Lingus business Boston or New York to Dublin: 45,000 points plus taxes and USD 20, and a free Dublin stopover before an onward Aer Lingus flight in Europe
  • Fiji Airways Los Angeles to Nadi, stopover, then on to Auckland or Sydney: 75,000 points plus about USD 90 and USD 20
  • Starlux business Los Angeles to Taipei: 75,000 points at chart price plus about USD 70 and USD 20 (live prices often show far higher)

Do not use it for

  • British Airways, Hainan and Icelandair flights: these are the only partners where fuel surcharges are passed on
  • Cathay Pacific business: space released to Alaska is close to non-existent, and pages quoting 50,000 to Hong Kong are stale (the chart says 75,000 to 85,000)
  • Speculative partner bookings for groups: the USD 20 partner fee is charged per person per direction and is not refunded when you cancel

Where to search

alaskaair.com books every Atmos Rewards partner online (JAL, Qatar, Cathay, Qantas, Starlux, Fiji, Finnair, Aer Lingus, Iberia, Korean, Condor and others). Live prices are often two to three times the chart, and since March 2026 some connecting partner itineraries have priced above chart (Alaska called it a technical issue it had fixed; readers reported it continuing into July). seats.aero and AwardFares cache Atmos space, but JAL and mixed-cabin results are phantom-prone, so confirm on alaskaair.com before transferring.

How to book, step by step

  1. Join Atmos Rewards in your passport name. You can book awards for anyone with your points.
  2. Search alaskaair.com for award pricing, one-way, business. For a stopover use the multi-city tool and search each leg separately: first leg to the partner's hub, second leg onward. The stopover has to be in that partner's hub or the search fails.
  3. Open the flight details before choosing. JAL itineraries often show mixed-cabin connections (economy on a short leg); make sure the long-haul flight is in business.
  4. Go to the payment page and compare the points price with the chart. If it shows two or three times the chart price, change the date rather than pay it.
  5. Only then transfer: Bilt 1:1 is instant, Marriott 3:1 takes 1 to 8 days. There are no holds, so with Marriott the seat can go before the points arrive.
  6. Pay taxes plus the USD 20 partner fee per person per direction by card. Summit Visa Infinite cardholders have the fee waived when the points come from their own account and the card pays.
  7. Check the confirmation email for ticket numbers. If the site fails at payment, call 800-252-7522 and give the flight numbers; phone bookings cost USD 30 per person.
  8. Changes and cancellations are free until departure; points go back to your account but the partner fee does not.

When you need to phone

Only for complex itineraries or when the site fails: 800-252-7522. The call center booking fee is USD 30 per person since 2 July 2026 (was USD 15); whether elites still get it waived is not confirmed.

Fees

Partner award fee USD 20 per person per direction for bookings from 1 July 2026, non-refundable (waived for Summit Visa Infinite cardholders on their own points). Phone booking USD 30 per person. Changes and cancellations free before departure, with points redeposited. No close-in fee.

Surcharges

Fuel surcharges only on British Airways, Hainan and Icelandair. None on JAL, Qatar, Cathay, Qantas, Starlux, Fiji, Finnair or Aer Lingus, where you pay taxes (about USD 50 to 90 from the US) plus the USD 20 partner fee.

Getting points in

Bilt 1:1, instant (US). Marriott Bonvoy 3:1 with 5,000 bonus miles per 60,000 points (60,000 becomes 25,000), 1 to 8 days. No Chase, Amex or Capital One. Canada has no direct bank route; Amex Canada Membership Rewards can go via Marriott (50,000 MR to 60,000 Bonvoy to 25,000 Atmos points).

Booking for other people

You can book for anyone, with no nominee list. Summit Visa Infinite cardholders can set up a points-sharing network with up to 10 members.

Strengths and traps

  • JAL business US to Tokyo 60,000 with a free Japan stopover
  • Free stopover on one-way partner awards (up to 14 days)
  • No award chart devaluation in 2026
  • Qatar Qsuite US to Doha 70,000 with a free Doha stopover and onward flight
  • Trap: Bonus is targeted; 100 percent (1.88 cents) is what most accounts see, and some non-US members got no offer in October 2026
  • Trap: 7.5 percent US excise tax added for every buyer; USD 20 partner booking fee since 1 July 2026
  • Trap: Aggregator pages still quote stale 2023 prices for Cathay (70,000 first) and Qantas (55,000 business); the distance chart says 130,000 and 85,000

Transfers in from: Bilt, Marriott Bonvoy.
