Useful mainly when a fixed-rate Promo seat appears on Etihad's own flights; otherwise its long-haul business prices and carrier charges are high and its cancellation rules are the harshest here. For Etihad business from the US, AAdvantage at 70,000 with no surcharges usually beats it.

- Long Etihad flights such as Abu Dhabi to Sydney: 120,000 miles plus about USD 648 in charges
Where to search
Search etihad.com logged in, with miles selected; results show Value, Comfort and Deluxe prices, and Promo seats are the cheapest capacity-controlled ones. Only American and Virgin Australia partner flights show online; other partners are booked through the contact center. seats.aero and AwardFares cache Etihad space, but confirm on etihad.com because Etihad's partner and promo inventory changes fast.
How to book, step by step
- Join Etihad Guest in your passport name. You can book awards for anyone.
- Search etihad.com logged in, with miles, one-way, business, and compare the Value, Comfort and Deluxe prices for the same flight.
- Choose the fare type on purpose: Value cannot be canceled and costs AED 600 to change; Comfort loses 25 percent of the miles if canceled and costs AED 200 to change; Deluxe is free to change or cancel more than 72 hours out.
- Go to the payment page and note the carrier charges; they can be several hundred US dollars on long flights.
- Only then transfer: Citi ThankYou and Capital One usually arrive the same day, Bilt within 48 hours. Amex no longer transfers in any market.
- Pay taxes and carrier charges by card and check the confirmation for a ticket number.
- For partner awards other than American and Virgin Australia, contact the Etihad Guest contact center with flight numbers ready.
When you need to phone
Needed for most partner awards (all except American and Virgin Australia). A verified 2026 phone number and any phone booking fee could not be confirmed; use the contact options on etihad.com.
Fees
Awards ticketed from 13 November 2025: Value, change AED 600, no cancellation; Comfort, change AED 200, cancellation forfeits 25 percent of the miles; Deluxe, free changes and cancellation. No changes or cancellations within 72 hours of departure on any type.
Surcharges
Etihad adds carrier charges on its own flights: Abu Dhabi to Sydney business 120,000 miles plus about USD 648; 2024 figures were about USD 580 Abu Dhabi to the US and USD 340 Abu Dhabi to Europe in premium cabins. Charges on partner awards are not confirmed.

US: Citi ThankYou 1:1 (same day), Capital One 1:1 (same day), Bilt 1:1 (up to 48 hours), Rove 1:1 (instant), Marriott Bonvoy 3:1 with 5,000 bonus per 60,000 (1 to 8 days). India: HDFC 2:1. UAE: Mashreq 22 points to 1 mile. Amex left in every market in June 2026 (Canada 20 June, UK 22 June, US 30 June; India 1 July).
Booking for other people
You can book for anyone. A Family Account pools miles for relatives; sources disagree on the size (up to 8 or 9 members).
